FOR COUNSELING SERVICES
CTFD's career-transition counseling services are available free-of-charge to current and former professional dancers; pre-professionals striving for a professional performing dance career; and dance students training for a professional performing dance career.
FOR FINANCIAL GRANTS
Limited funding for tuition, retraining or seed money central to fledgling business enterprises is available to current and former professional dancers who can demonstrate earning their livelihood from performing as dancers. PLEASE NOTE: Choreographing or teaching dance is not applicable for meeting eligibility requirements.
Grants of up to a total of $2000 for each individual may be awarded to those dancers who meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Provide documentation of a performing dance career of 7 or more years. Performing years need not be consecutive or current.
- Provide documentation of 100 weeks or more of paid dance employment in the United States within a career-span of 7 or more years.
- Provide documentation of total gross earnings of a minimum of $56,000 arrived at by combining the annual gross income of the 7 highest earning years of a performing dance career.
Note: For work done entirely under union jurisdiction; provide documentation of 100 or more weeks worked in at least 7 years under union jurisdiction. Documentation of additional earnings is not required. more...

Career Transition For Dancers provides limited financial assistance for tuition and retraining or seed money central to fledgling business enterprises for current and former professional dancers who can meet CTFD's eligibility requirements (see above). Eligibility for financial grants is based on work history as a professional dancer. (Choreographing or teaching dance is not applicable for meeting eligibility requirements.)
The Sono Osato Scholarship Program for Graduate Studies
CTFD will be offering a limited number of competitive scholarships for current and former dancers who have received the maximum amount from the Caroline H. Newhouse Scholarship Fund and are pursuing graduate degrees in an area other than performing dance.
Previous recipients of a Gasparinetti award are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
To be eligible to apply for a Sono Osato Scholarship applicants must:
- have received the maximum allowed amount from the Newhouse Scholarship Fund;
- be studying or planning to study at the graduate level in one of the approved degree programs;
- have achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA for an undergraduate or graduate degree, or recent prerequisite coursework. more...
